Tommy Barlow – Bill Is Dead
Tommy Barlow has a voice that feels like it’s been doing this for years. His deep, gravelly bass-baritone leads off “Bill Is Dead”, his newest single released on Young UK today, featuring a video made by Josh Renaut. The process he used to make “Bill Is Dead” was the same as he used to create his previous two releases; he takes folk songwriting techniques he learned from growing up in a musical family near Cambridge and runs them through an electronic production style that leaves everything cold, dark and un-warm.
The most common references to compare him to are Leonard Cohen or King Krule. There are some other similar comparisons in addition to those, however, most of the time people are trying to find a way to explain the power of his voice in concert.
He recently announced a series of dates in Europe and the United Kingdom through October 18th, along with a one date performance at Toronto on November 1st, stating that the performances will be “very big and epic…loud to quiet then loud again”.
